Intercom Function Places Current Call On Hold

Posted by caw on Tue, 04/06/2010

I am using MTE 6.0.1.72 on Asterisk 1.6.0.6 (though this will be upgraded soon) with Linksys SPA900 series phones.

The problem I'm running into is that whenever someone dials a user's phone via the intercom function it barges in on the current call, if one is in progress.

I'm sure there's just a little tweak in the intercom script, but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks!

thats a problem with your phone... polycom's do not interrupt the call in progress when another call comes in; even if auto answer is set.

garbage in = garbage out

there is a setting to allow or not allow barge in (handsfree interrupt when they are on the phone with an outside party) and another to allow or not allow handsfree intercom. I would suspect there would (should) be something similar in the linksys phones.

not sure if linksys thought that out or not.. they're one of those bang-for-the-buck kinds of phones. If everything they do is all you need, you get a good phone for not so much money. If you need them to do something different than what they do.. you'd have a better chance getting Nancy Pelosi to stop wasting government tax dollars on booze cruises.

caw use the tl-page "Page a group of extensions" script. it will NOT page to a phone that's in a call. not the same but for know the next best thing..

Sorry guys, things calmed down enough for me to finally get back to this.

Working around this issue with the "Page a group of extensions" almost works, except that the callee cannot respond to the caller even if they pickup the handset.

I guess I'm going to spend the weekend comparing tl-intercom to tl-page and see if I can modify the intercom script to use chanisavail ... unless someone else has done it in the last four (4) months.

Thanks.

ok before I answer this i need to know..

do you have any learning disabilities?
have you ever played in a band?

tl-page is supposed to work exactly like the way your explaining. they cannot talk back.

That is exactly how I figured it should work, but George recommended I try it, so I did. End of story.

If you would like to throw insults or make snarky comments, I would appreciate it if you would just ignore my posts. I try not to ask questions here in an effort to avoid your responses. Unfortunately most of my questions these days revolve around the Thirdlane MTE product, which I am still a relative novice at using, I have little recourse but to set myself up for a response from you.

its a valid question.. if your answer no to both of these questions.. then I would explain. If the answer was yes to either then you should either already know or its not worth explaining anyway. The reason Page() does not let you talk back, is because the same thing that happens when in a band the mic gets too close to the speakers. It creates this feedback loop that starts going crazy. So the other members are muted members to prevent a feedback loop. this is how Page() functions.

as far as making your phone auto answer its the exact same set of sip headers in both cases. In one cases its a Dial() command that gets auto-answered. In the other its a Page() command. In both cases the same sets of headers get sent to the phone.
