Uninstall of Thirdlane connect does not remove connect info

Posted by aponnath on Mon, 03/01/2021

I am having an issue connecting with Thirdlane Connect to my server and it just shows the Spinner. So i tried to go and uninstall the client and reinstall with the same success, only inactive screen and spinner.
So where does it take the Login Info from ? I cant find anything in the registry and there is no file in the dir as i deleted the dir manually. It must get the info from somewhere as the client has my initials.
So there is multiple issues..
a) Why does an uninstall not remove connection Info ?
b) Why does the Client not ask for login Info
c) Why is it stuck in endless pattern without timeout error etc ?

FYI, i can connect via the webclient fine from this work station..

Check the server, make sure webmin, uniserver, and prosody are running. Also, make sure you have a valid SSL certificate and domain configured on the server.

Yes i can connect from web and IOS client. The question is more where does the windows client take the connection info as it might be outdated. And it seems to never timeout under certain conditions rendering client as useless.

I don't know the answer personally (I don't use Windows), will ask our developers. In the meantime, could you do a global grep like search for the domain you entered when configuring connect?

Not sure what the credentials will do as the system works fine, i can access my extension via my ipgone client or from another workstation. But in this case even after install, reinstall etc, it always seems to hang and not go anywhere. I checked my registry and deleted all thirdlane related stuff left behind and still no luck.
There must be a file you use to store the credentials as the system after install tries to connect without asking for any info name or server etc and the gui is unresponsive. So it is pretty much in a useless state and never times out . So there is many issues here.
a) Uninstall does not remove everything
b) On iReinstall it uses old data without asking
c) Even so system fails to Login, it never times out user does not get option to correct or change credentials

So can someone at thirdlane solve this mystery where their windows app stores the credentials ? As it seems when you uninstall it does not remove them. And in my case after reinstall it try's to use the old ones and it never times out just presents an infinite spinner. And no i don't have Server setup issues as i can login via the html client just fine on this pc or from another work station.

I guess if you don't get an answer to some basic stuff like this I have to wonder. Either they really don't know or they just don't plane care. Based on the activity of these forums i would assume there is not much going on. In any case you can ignore it as i solved my issue by a clean system reinstall which i did because of upgrade to Windows 11 and now it works. So there is something wrong with the install client as it does not remove all config from pc.

We managed to fix the problem by removing the "ThirdlaneConnect" configuration folder in the path: C:\user\username\appdata\roaming
This folder is automatically regenerated when you login again.
