Siri (iPhone)
On iPhone, you can use Siri to place calls and send text messages with your Thirdlane Connect business identity - your business caller ID for calls and your business number for messages - without tapping through the app. Siri support is available on iOS only (16.1.3+).
What you can do
- Place a call, hands-free - “Connect call John Brown.” Connect rings your phone and then bridges the person you named, showing your business caller ID. The screen does not need to wake.
- Place a call (app opens) - “Call John Brown with Connect.” Siri hands off to Connect, which places the call.
- Send a dictated message - “Send a message to John Brown with Connect - running five minutes late.” Siri reads the text back to you, and on your confirmation sends it as a text from your business number - without opening the app.
The exact phrasing Siri accepts can vary by iOS version; try including the name Connect in the request so Siri routes it to Thirdlane Connect.
One-time setup
Setup is automatic:
- Sign in to Thirdlane Connect on your iPhone at least once. Connect provisions the credential Siri needs behind the scenes.
- On first use, allow Siri when iOS prompts, or turn it on manually under Settings > Thirdlane Connect > Siri & Search (enable Use with Ask Siri).
No codes, tokens, or manual configuration are required. If you sign out or switch users, Connect re-provisions the next time you sign in.
How names are matched
When you name a person, Connect looks them up in this order:
- Your device Contacts (uses the contact’s mobile/cell number).
- Your company directory, so you can reach a coworker you have not saved to Contacts.
For a text message, Connect always uses a real mobile number - it will not text an internal extension. If only an extension is available, a call can still go through, but a message cannot.
Requirements and limits
- iPhone only. There is no Android voice-assistant equivalent in the app today.
- You must be signed in to Connect. If your session has expired, Siri will tell you to open Connect to sign in again.
- Messages need a default business number configured for outbound texting; if none is set, calling still works.
- Siri support depends on the Siri & Search and Contacts permissions - see Device permissions and required settings.
