Meetings
Meetings are Thirdlane Connect’s video conferencing. You start or schedule a meeting, share its link, and everyone joins a video room where they can turn on their camera, share their screen, chat, and exchange files. Regular Connect calls stay voice only - video happens in a meeting.
A meeting is not limited to your colleagues. Anyone you send the link to can join from a web browser, including customers, partners, and other guests who do not have a Thirdlane Connect account. Meetings are how you bring people from outside your organization into a live video conversation - you decide who attends simply by choosing who to share the link with.
Availability
Meetings are an optional feature. They appear only when your administrator has turned on Video conferencing for the platform (Configuration Manager → System Preferences) and enabled meetings for your account. When meetings are available, a Meetings tab shows in the Team workspace of the left sidebar (see Team and Customer Workspaces). If the tab is not there, meetings are not enabled for you.
Starting a meeting now
You do not have to schedule ahead - you can open a meeting room on the spot:
- From the Meetings tab - choose Start to open a new room immediately, then share its link with whoever you want to join.
- From a one-to-one chat - click the camera (Start Meeting) button in the conversation header to start a meeting with that person. They receive an in-app Join call prompt.
- From a channel - click the camera (Start Meeting) button, pick the members to bring in, and start. The members you select get the same in-app Join call prompt.
Ad-hoc meetings use the same kind of video room as scheduled ones, so once you are in you can still copy the link and invite external guests.
Scheduling a meeting
Open the Meetings tab and choose Add Meeting. The scheduling form has:
- Subject - the meeting name (up to 64 characters).
- Description - optional details (up to 200 characters).
- When - the date and start time.
- Duration - hours and minutes.
- Time Zone - the time zone the start time is expressed in.
- Url - the meeting’s room link. Use the copy icon to copy it to your clipboard and share it with participants.
- Add to - download an Outlook Calendar (.ics) file to add the meeting to your calendar.
Choose Save to create the meeting. To change or cancel a meeting later, open it from the Meetings tab and use Save or Delete.
Inviting participants
Meetings support both your team and outside guests:
- Connect colleagues - when you start a meeting from a chat or channel, the people you include get an in-app Join call notification with a one-click Join button, so they do not even need the link.
- Customers and external guests - share the meeting Url with anyone, even if they are not a Connect user. Copy the link with the copy icon, download the Outlook Calendar (.ics) file to attach to a calendar invite, or paste the link into a chat, email, or text message. There is no account to create or app to install - guests open the link in a web browser and join.
You control who attends simply by who you share the link with.
Joining a meeting
Opening the meeting Url in a web browser brings you into the video room. Connect users can also join straight from the Join call prompt, or open the meeting from their Meetings tab at the scheduled time.
In a meeting
Inside a meeting you can:
- Turn your camera on or off - meetings are where video is used in Connect.
- Share your screen - present an entire screen or a single application window. See Screen Sharing for platform support and the Chrome extension requirement.
- Chat and share files - keep a side conversation and exchange files with participants without leaving the meeting.
- Go full screen - give the video more room.
