Yum Updates with Thirdlane ISO Installation

Posted by sonoracomm on Sun, 04/03/2011

Hi,

We just built a new PBX for a customer and installed the system using the latest 2.0 .iso image.

During the initial configuration, out of curiosity, I ran "yum check-update" to see if and how many package updates were available. There are quite a few.

I note there is a "thirdlane" repo configured that includes Asterisk, DAHDI, Fail2ban and several NIC drivers (updates?). I suspect this will take most of the 'sting' out of kernel updates.

I have two questions:

1) Is it advisable to "yum update" a new Thirdlane ISO install and, if so, what steps should I take afterwards?

2) Is it advisable to ever "yum update" a Thirdlane ISO install and, if so, what steps should I take afterwards?

Thanks in advance,

G
