WiFi phone problem

Posted by abongard on Fri, 07/24/2009

I just go a Wifi phone for a customer and having weird problems.

1. I tried it with voipswitch softswitch and it works perfect when I make a call or receive a call

2. I tried it with thirdland and when i receive a call it works fine. When i call another extension it works fine. But when I call out I get one way audio.

I am looking for some help with this as we are getting customers asking for cordless phones for the office.

Thanks

I have had similar problems with WIFI phones of various types.

Usually the problem is one of the following:

1. Firewall blocking port for audio

2. You need to put IP addresses for the server instead of DNS names. as well as in the proxy setting area.

3. The codec is set wrong or you do not have enough licenses if you are using G.729.

I have tried 4 different WIFI VOIP phones and found them all to be bad choices in an office environment. They are not reliable enough yet.

Try using a DECT phone instead, they work well and are bullet proof for wireless.

1. Firewall is fine as we are using desktop Sip phones and they work fine.

2. I am using Ip instead of DNS name.

3. I have it set for G711 and i have alot of G729 licenses on the system.

if there anything else i can try, please let me know

Thanks
