Webmin Login problem

Posted by Denis Campq on Mon, 08/31/2015

I have an old customer who called me in a panic about his ST Thirdlane system he has had for several years without a problem.

He mentioned he had some weird problems on Friday and tried to reboot but after it restarted he no longer can login via webmin.

I have not touched Thirdlane in several years and know what I don't know and can't remember a thing.

He is desperate and I told him I would do what I can to help him get his system back up.

Where I am at this point.
I can login with SSH. Something I noticed though is after I give SSH the root user it take a couple mins for the password prompt to show up. The password works and system is responsive for SSH after I login.

I remember their was a procedure to reset Webmin / Thirdlane password but I don't have time to find the procedure to reset webmin password.... or even if the password is the problem with logging in.

In the past .... when my customer lost his password to login to Webmin/admin on Thirdlane their was a procedure we could follow to reset password.

I would like to pay for some support from someone on forum to help me get the password reset or point me to the procedure I need to follow to reset or find the Webmin password. It's probably in one of the config files but have looked around for a couple hrs and my customer needs more help than I can supply.

Sorry for the ignorance on my part...... but I am willing to pay for someone who knows what to do.
I don't even know what ST version he is on but it must be several years old. I am sure I am asking to be Flammed by Eric but I know what I don't know and need some help from someone with much more experience with Linux and Thirdlane than I have.

Thanks for your help guys.

I really need some help getting Thirdlane working. Customer is willing to pay up for some support.

Customer has a 5 year old ST system version 6 something that he can't log into Webmin now for some reason.

Not looking for free Forum support. Want to pay someone who knows Webmin and Thirdlane. If Erik or someone else can help.... Customer will pay.

Please let me know.

Sorry the forum is not exactly emergency support. And I haven't seen eeman around for some time now.
Anyway, if you point a browser to http://(hostname or IP):10000/webmin you should get a login prompt.
The actual root users credentials are active here. Its possible you might be forced through the pbx webmin module first; root's credentials are active for this as well. Then you can cahnge the url to /webmin. If you get nothing and service webmin is started, I don't know what to tell you. Except maybe reload.

If you are using https, you will need to make sure all the cert stuff is correct, and if it is a new browser on an old system it may have to be disabled back to a weak DH state.

Hello;
Shoot me an email at fsd (at) voipbusiness (dot) us. Resetting a webmin password is very simple to do from the (ssh) command line.

Frank
