Thirdlane and Asterisk 1.6

Posted by cbbs70a on Fri, 11/21/2008

All;
I'm planning on taking a look at Asterisk 1.6 to weigh the pros and cons of upgrading and I was wondering if there is any reason why the Thirdlane interface would not support it. According to FAQ,
Thirdlane is compatible only with Asterisk 1.2 and 1.4. However, under "News and Announcements" there is mention of version 1.6. Since I have not looked at 1.6 at all yet, maybe the answer is obvious.
Thanks Much;
FSD

I think just the most-recent two versions of PBX Manager support asterisk 1.6 (the ones released just this last weekend). And that support I'm pretty sure is still experimental at this point. That said, since you're planning on looking at it anyway, you might set it up on a test server and just try it out and see what happens. And be sure to report bugs you find so it can be less experimental in future versions.

1.6 only supports DAHDI and all the channel names are DAHDI only. Whereas in 1.4 you can still tell dahdi drivers to use Zap channel names. Its changes like this that is making it more difficult to support 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 within the same code base.
