Multiple Devices / User - How to use Connect?

Posted by Trouble on Mon, 02/06/2017

Hi, i am in the process of looking at moving to ThirdLane (Business Edition), and am very impressed with the product so far.

We have been using Asterisk based system from the likes of Asterisk@Home in early 2000's through to PBXware in December, but the lack of innovation moved us away. We tried 3CX and after using it for a money (and wasting $$ on a licence) we are pulling our hair out!

So back to ThirdLane, we have a few users that need to be able to message & call from their desk phone and also their mobile phone. We have previously used Bria with PBXware, but the issues with battery life made it unusable.

Using Connect though is very nice, and to be honest a big reason we are looking at using ThirdLane, but i have 2 issues that i dont know a work around:

1 - Push notification works on messages to the mobile phone, but not phone calls. I need to turn my phone on to see an incoming call. I understand there is an update to Connect this week, is this expected to be addressed?

2 - Is there any way to have messages come to multiple accounts?

At the moment i have setup ext 312 for my desk phone (as a SIP account), and 412 on my mobile (as a WebRTC account), setup 412 to use 312's voicemail, its Callier ID internally, and also calls to 312 call 412 - so from a phone point of view, it all looks like its 1 account.

But how do i do that in Connect for messaging, or is ThirdLane looking at getting this working soon, as to be honest this is the only reason i can see us not moving to ThirdLane.

Hi there! Please contact me at eugene@thirdlane.com, generally, regarding 1, this should work for calls to extensions, we will need to take a look, at your system and see what is going on there. regarding the second there is an ability in connect to switch between desk and WebRTC right from the application, in settings, have you tried that functionality? Anyway, I am waiting for an email from you.

Hi, i have emailed you as requested.

As for switching between WebRTC and desktop - that doesnt solve the issue that we need messaging to go to multiple devices.

Also changing from one to another is not something you can expect a user to do in 2017. Maybe in 2001 something like this could be accepted by an end user, but in todays world? not really.

For the "dynamic" users who switch devices all the time, multiple devices are important, that is why this is on our product road map. At the moment, if somebody needs this, they could define 2 endpoints - one webrtc the other sip and route calls to both of them - not perfect but would work. How many applications do you know today that allow browser calls, switching to mobile phone, then to SIP phone while doing this is a really seamless way?

Any good examples?
