I get names for internal users.

So for example, if my name is Bob and I call Jim at his extension from my extension, you'll see my name "Bob" come up and my extension number is displayed as well.

What I want to be able to do, is to assign a name to external number calling in.

So let's say there a customer... John, that usually calls for Bob.
We want Bob to be able to easily identify John calling in by tying his cell number to his name in the directory.

It will be a predetermined list of course.

so for external calls you dont get CNAM data ? (CallerID Name)

i have an AGI script I helped develop that will look up numbers in a MySQL database and use that for names. I originally developed it to do callerid-lookup service from a per-lookup provider and cache the results for a couple weeks to reduce the number of lookups. It supports manual override of a number to permanently insert it into the database.

Sounds a bit complicated...
Is that MySQL database the same database that is the directory?

They want to recognize the caller, caller Id name on the phone will satisfy some of them.

Erik, you asked if we cannot see the name in the external caller Id if he was entered into the company directory?
For me it's showing only the number, should it show the name from the built in directory?

is it possible to write a script for incoming call to lookup the name in the company directory?
contacts are in txt file, can script deal with it?
