Grid Computing

Posted by dozment on Thu, 04/16/2009

I have a friend who is considering trying to roll out some Asterisk servers using gogrid.com. His idea is to have the asterisk config files on shared storage, and then as the load increases on his servers quickly throw new servers into the mix behind a load balancer. I've seen the discussion about running * on virtual machines, and I have seen the timing problems that it causes. Has anyone tried this grid approach?

you cant run asterisk behind a load balancer. your friend is being kinda ... whats the PC word, impetuous. think about a case where 2 phones are on 1 box and 8 phones connected to the other.. how are they going to call each other, how will they track presence, how will they coexist in a queue and how will they conference.

load balancers work for web servers, they dont work for pbxs or any other service where not only is state and session of the end node important; but everyone else session is equally important.
