Displaying Callee Name when calling out

Posted by kyriakos on Fri, 02/29/2008

Hi guys,
can we make the name of the called extension to display on the calling phone?

Example:
extension 314 Name Andrew
extension 390 Name John

When 314 calls 390 , the name John should be displayed on Andrew's phone. Has anyone done this?
Looking at the sip packages name is not included in the "Trying" and "Ringing" packages, in the "To" header. All i get is
To: ;tag=as77f4b608.
I currently have SPA 942s and Cisco 7960s phones. This feature was working with Cisco Call Manager and 7960s.

your request is specific to the chan_sip.so channel driver if you are requesting a sip message returned to you with more information. You would need to make such request in the asterisk list. On polycom phones, numbers that match entries in the phones personal directory will display the entry on placed calls. The behavior is very similar to cell phones. When you call another cell phone it doesn't display any names unless it matches your contact list.

I think your quick-and-dirty solution might merely involve populating a contact directory for the phones. There is also rumor of the newest polycom firmware including LDAP lookups of its contact directory.

No, he is asking for the callER to see callerid of the callEE. The callee already sees the info of the caller. The callee didnt call the caller so there is no presentation. Just like when you make an outbound call from your house, you arent given presentation of the callee's information.

This method is kind of Crappie but will work. You will need a Dual T1 Card. Loop the 2 T1 together and set them up as QSig links. Route all internal calles out the PRI and Back in. The Q931 messaging will display CLID info on both handsets Caller and Callee.

Cheers,
