Upgrade MTE PBX

Posted by rmartinez on Mon, 10/18/2010

Hello.
We're using the MTE PBX version "PBX Manager 6.0.1.81".
We need to do an update because we found a bug fixed in latests versions.
How can i do the upgrade if this machine is a production machine?.
We're using Asterisk 1.6.1.20.
Can someone help me some guidlines to do this?

Thanks in advance,
Regards,

Ricardo Martinez.-

Hi Ricardo
I did the upgrade (Asterisk 1.4x) some weeks ago
I installed Thirdlane on a temporary secondary server and restored the backup to that. Moved the production to that.
When its not licensed you cannot edit anything in Thirdlane, but everything works :-)
You can properbly guess that I then reinstalled the real production server, restored the backup again and then I moved the prodcution back and the license is fine again :-)

In that way you have to stop the production two times, I could do it in the middle of the night with no trafic :-)

this is absurd. No wonder Alex is being bombarded by abuse where people need new licenses for new mac addresses at a suspiciously high level. Its an hours worth of work at best to upgrade asterisk (barring missing libraries which is an additional 1-1.5hrs the first time only). There is no reason why you cant upgrade asterisk on an existing platform with a downtime of less than 5minutes. You can even compile everything during the day and issue your restart in the middle of the night.

to assume you need to blow everything off the hardware and install everything from scratch is an extremely monolithic approach and I cant imagine ANY linux/unix administrator with even 6months experience taking this approach. I sure hope you know how to dump/restore your CDR from the mysql database, otherwise you also violated a few telecom laws about keeping call records available. But then again if you did know how to dump/restore mysql databases you would know enough to not feel the need to format/reinstall an ISO just to perform an upgrade of asterisk and/or thirdlane.

Where do I write that I request a new license?

As I described I made an backup, the MySQL is included in my backup and some other scripts I made myself on the server. Please accept that thats the way I like to do it.

When I have upgraded the production machine I go back to that and have the same mac-address as the license.

I have bothered noone else than myself, so please stop blaming me for abusing other peoples time.

Have a nice weekend :-)

Hey,

Thanks for the replies, but you still don´t answer our question. We only want to upgrade PBX Manager.
Could it be as simple as deleting the old Thirdlane module from webmin and then installing the upgraded version? We don´t want to try this out until we are complete sure this is the way to go since its a production server.

Thanks!
