Trixbox Vs Thirdlane

Hi,

Can you please let me know the difference between Trixbox and Thirdlane, even AsteriskNOW is similar to Thirdlane.

the only thing similar is there is a web portal that lets you administrate changes. the differences are too large to mention in a single post. Trixbox, Elastix, AsteriskNOW are all installation platforms but they all use the same gui, FreePBX. In fact its downright offensive how those distributions have misled the public into believing that they (fonality) have done anything more than make an iso that installs someone elses crap and takes full credit for it. FreePBX is a lot more restricted in terms of functionality. It does some things well, some things not so well, and some things in such a crazy structured manner it makes me think the lead developer is dyslexic. If you're willing to live within the very narrow parameters or restrictions of its interface, it might serve your needs. With Thirdlane exists the ability to do a large amount of customizations and 3rd party integration as well as a much more versital user portal. Thirdlane is built with the business user in mind and with that comes an interface that is designed with the business class user in mind; not some cartoony, kid-looking interface that you get with freePBX. FreePBX started as Asterisk@Home. The point to take away from it is @Home. Home tinkerers still amount to a large percentage of their base, so don't be surprised to find out some useful feature you might want get pushed aside to spent countless hours developing a feature making asterisk remind you to log into XBoxLive and update your kill stats.

As an example of what can only be described as the insanity of FreePBX's design, I tried to set the time an outbound call would ring. In Thirdlane its straightforward. Just go to the section 'outbound routes' and set the variable "How long to ring". Guess what? Can't be done in FreePBX! The value of 300 secs is hardcoded into the dialplan, which means everytime you make a change in the web portal, the whole thing gets overwritten with default values. I don't know what upside down bizarro world the FreePBX developers live in, but I can't take FreePBX or any of its derivative products seriously.
