Redundancy Strategy

Posted by Phoneguy on Tue, 04/18/2017

I would be interested to know what redundancy strategies users have successfully implemented for MTE across data centres. It looks like just having a second instance in a backup location would be simple, but as far as we can tell, this quickly gets complicated.

- IP sharing (CARP) looks like is not an option across data centres
- SRV DNS record may be an option, but seems there is a risk that some phones will choose the primary and some the backup
- manual switch over
- VM based solutions eg VEAMM
- How to keep the 2 instances in sync

Anyone have a working solution?

Hello,

You can use Polycom phones as an option if you want to have secondary server in separete location with different IP address. They can be configured with primary and secondary servers. Phones will be trying to make calls via primary server first. If it will be unreachable, they will send calls to secondary server.

Connectivity to PSTN can be little trickier. But with most SIP trunk carriers you are not tied only to one location that you can register from. Or if source IP address based authentication is used, multiple locations with different priorities are allowed. You will just need to find carrier that suits best your needs.

As for data replication and cutover, Thirdlane has Redundancy option for installations. You should ask in Contact us section about it for more information.
