fax results reporting

Posted by chamlee on Wed, 09/12/2012

I have recently started using the Thirdlane PBX for faxing. When viewing the results of a fax campaign the user sees all failures and success or they can see either all failures only or all successes only; however what they want to see is only the final result for a phone number whether it was a success or failure. So if a number fails on the first 2 tries and succeeds on the third they would only like to see the success. They are sending hundreds of faxes at a time so filtering on individual phone numbers does not work for them. I am needing this because like all new products it is being compared to its predecessor. Any information on where the information would be held in the mysql database might also be helpful. - Thanks

I was thinking if I change the MaxRetries setting to "0" so that each number was only tried one this might resolve my reporting problem. Can anyone provide me the location/file for where I would change the MaxRetries setting. Presently it appears to be set to 3. - Thanks

Well although setting MaxRetries to 0 will work, my users would still prefer allowing multiple retries, but have the report only show the final outcome of all the retries. So any other ideas would still be appreciated. - Thanks

thats about as good as its going to get unfortunately. CDR stands for CAll Detail Records. Like it or not, if it took 4 tries, then there is going to be 4 entries in the CDR. Its not a summary screen or reporting screen. Altering the CDR records (if you are a voip provider) violates a half dozen federal laws pertaining to subpoena of a customers call records, so you wouldnt want to monkey around with those.

The faxing module of asterisk is a very simplistic tool that basically says dump this tiff image into this channel driver as fax communication. If you are looking for something much more robust for faxing I would recommend something like Hylafax for faxing. This user portal tool simply wasn[t intended for campains of faxes. It was a value-add supplement to what is deemed average use for a regular extension user (aka the occasional fax).

Given that it's been deemed by some judges now that faxes violate HIPAA, and patient confidentiality; in addition to the major PSTN carriers pledging their commitment to the FCC to abolish the PSTN and go purely to VoIP; its really time the world abandoned their love affair with this 1986 technology and move on.

That was very good information. I will look into they Hylafax if they cannot live with the zero retries. I have seen the Hylafax mentioned in so other posts.
