Block inbound caller ID with huntlist for inbound route

Posted by john.lee on Mon, 01/27/2014

Hi,

I have a question that i cant seem to find the answer to anywhere. We have a customer who we host their phone system. The customer is complaining that a fax number keeps calling in 10 to 20 times a day and they want it blocked. I blocked in on the extension but that doesn't keep the call from coming in. The only thing i can think of is that they are using a hunt list, Dials first to the receptionist and then to the extension if no one picks up. I even tried blocking it on the receptionist extension and that didn't solve the issue either. is there something im missing?

thank you for your help!

Hi John,

Is this fax calling a specific number and uses the same caller id? If so, you can block it in the script used in the inbound route.

yes its calling a specific number, i currently have the inbound route for that number going to a hunt list during business hours, after hours it goes directly to the extension. where would i add this in the inbound route?

Everything (well, almost everything :) is possible.

You could modify scripts that you use to route to hunt lists and extensions.

If you are using standard Thirdlane scripts you can clone them and modify the clones to check the caller id and reject unwanted calls. You will also have to change inbound routes to use your modified scripts instead of ours.

you wouldn't happen to have any suggestions would you? i tried to pull some of the call blocking from the standard inbound route and add it to the hunt list script and it didnt seem to work the way i was hoping.
