Server Specs

Looking to purchase a new server for the latest Thirdlane MTE.

Any recommendations for specs on a new server.

Also, should we favor IO speeds over space, SSD, etc. Dell Servers vs Custom build

- 100+ concurrent calls but would be increasing to 3-400+ within 2-3 years.
-100-150+ Tenants.

Asterisk doesn't really need a whole lock of horsepower to operate. The more resource intensive aspect of a TL system is actually the load your customers may or may not put on the web portal (Webmin based) running reports etc. So recommendations would be more fine tuned to understand your client profile and if they are the set it and forget it type or if you are going to have 500 simultaneous users on Connect and another 100 looking at reports / call center information.

Also, whether you enable / allow call recording will be a big impact on drive selection. Recording a 100 concurrent calls all at once is probably going to require both space and speed.

Yeah we allow call recording so in theory there will be at least 20-30 concurrent call recordings active.

I know I can overkill the specs and get 2x 8C CPUs and 4x 32GB DIMMs with a 8x 2TB 7200RPM 128MB Buffer SAS and be fine but wanted to fine tune it more so I dont spend $6000 on a server.

4x32GB in memory is definitely overkill. 2x8C CPUs are most likely overkill. If you are looking to future proof and save money, I would get a dual socket server with only 1 CPU and 32GB of RAM. This will allow you to add a second CPU in the future should it ever become necessary (not likely). Your drive subsystem is going to be your biggest challenge based on the call recordings. Your best value is probably SSDs in RAID5/6 (depending on drive count).

I would go ahead and just buy that 2nd cpu. Its very hard to get an exact match a couple years later, especially if your not buying cutting edge. Ive spec’d hardware based on best bang-for-the-buck and have had to re-spec around 18-24mos due to supply of cpu. Sometimes I have to go to a completely different soxket. But going SATA shouldnt be a problem when your running raid6, that will save a bunch. If you dont want to go full SSD try those hubrid drives that boost access times. They arent much more than standard HDD.

32G total memory per cpu is more than enough to run the java and web interface.

So this is what I am currently looking at for specs since MTE can be installed with a Raid 1 and I will be purchasing an identical server for a backup.

I know some aspects might be overkill but in conversation with the Raid, if the ISO installs with Raid 1 I will essentially have a 1TB SSD Server with a redundant backup server.

Please let me know your thoughts.
