Manage voicemailbox settings trough webinterface

Posted by Wender on Mon, 08/30/2010

Hello,
i would like to be able to setup voicemailbox settings through the webinterface instead of dialing the voicemailbox and go to the voicemailsettings menu.

what i miss in the webinterface of the voicemail settings is the abbility to upload or record (like the voice recordings) the unavailible or busy message.
especially for special mailboxes this would be great.

mostly because idiots would either upload improper format or try to friggen upload MP3's. The only format we approve for MTE is gsm encoded WAV. Its easy to get this format when the phone is used to make the recording. This is not so easy to make without knowing the right codec, sample rates etc. If you stick some other readable format in there you can find yourself in a situation where the file does not get replaced when you record via VoiceMailMain and then customers complain that despite recording a new message the old one keeps showing up.

I think the way Digium has solved it with Switchvox where you can manage your voicemail settings from the portal as well as trigger a call on your phone that is directly routed to a recording promt works really fine.

You can also use that same functionality when uploading general sounds for use in IVR's etc. that is really handy instead of uploading files in proper formats (or improper formats that needs to be on-the-fly encoded to gms)

I agree, managing the user recordings used the portal would be a great addition I also agree it should only be done using the system to record the files. customer made files is and will continues to be a pain.

my 2 cents worth :)
